There is so much beauty in the Fraser Valley to experience during your stay in Winter Park, Colorado. For those that don't feel comfortable on two wheels and prefer to hike the area boasts over 600 miles of trails, here are 4 of our favorite day hikes for wildflowers and mountain scenery.
Creekside/ Flume Loop in Fraser
This 5 mile loop is mostly flat and will not summit any peaks but has incredible views of Byers Peak and crossings over the St. Louis Creek. There is even a lookout bench to stop, sit and take in the views. This trail is covered in wildflowers during the Spring and Summer and glowing with golden aspen leaves in the Fall. One thing to keep in mind, the Creekside Flume Loop is also a very popular biking trail be sure to keep dogs on a leash & share the trail with mountain bikers.
Adams Falls East Inlet in Grand Lake
The Adams Falls trail is located at the edge of Grand Lake right on the boarder of Rocky Mountain National Park. This are beautiful and easily accessible for all ages and abilities. Continue past the falls to reach the glaciated valley with incredible views of Mount Baldy. As a side note, because of its location in Rocky Mountain National Park dogs are not allowed on the trail.
Monarch Lake in Granby
This 4 mile loop around Monarch Lake is absolutely beautiful and a solid year-round option - just bring snowshoes or nordic skis in the winter! This loop stays nice and level and offers opportunities to fish, picnic and camp. Keep your eyes open for wildlife, especially moose!
Columbine Lake in Meadow Creek Reservoir, Indian Peaks Wilderness Area
This hike is considered moderate, as it does gain almost 1,000ft in elevation from the trailhead to the lake. The trail has been rerouted in the recent years to take hikers through lush forest areas, over tree bridges and rock paths. The wildflowers are some of the best in the county with complimentary Continental Divide backdrops. Pack a lunch to enjoy lakeside and be prepared to be in awe of the beautiful Columbine Lake!
