The snow is melting and it's time to get back on two wheels! While some trails are taking their time to dry out there are a few early season bike rides that will help to get your biking legs back beneath you & scratch that itch to hit the road! Before you jump on any trail keep in mind that riding trails that are still wet and muddy will ensure tire ruts for the rest of the season, which makes riding difficult & injures our fragile trail system. We always recommend waiting until trails dry out to preserve the integrity of the trail for all riders to enjoy!
The Fraser River Trail
The Fraser River Trail runs from Winter Park Resort through the towns of Winter Park & Fraser & actually continues on all the way to the town of Granby. The portion of the trial which is ready to ride now is the section between the Resort and the town of Winter Park. It's a scenic, paved trail that is a beautiful & leisurely ride that offers just enough incline to get your legs moving. You can even rent a bike & pick up the trail right in front of Epic Mountain Sports! You will stay on the sidewalk as you head up towards the resort then dip down onto the paved portion of the trail just in front of Beaver Village Lodge. The trail winds through the trees along the river and over bridges. All in all the ride comes out to just over 2 miles to Old Town Winter Park, & the ride back is a fun coast that requires very little pedal work. With little elevation gain, this trail is perfect for beginning mountain bike riders, families, and those that need to get back in shape after a long winter!
A solid portion of the Phases (a local trail system) in Tabernash are also ready to ride! The best spot access spot for early season is just of Strawberry Rd, it is best to stay on the road for the ride up & then take the single track down.
Be sure to stop by Epic to get your bike tuned before the season and grab a local trail map from the shop! Chat up one of our bike technicians for the local's lowdown on some more early season rides! If you need a two-wheeled ride, Epic carries everything from Full Suspension Mountain Bikes to cruisers so come check out our Rental Bike Fleet!
